The proceedings commenced with an inspiring prayer from Fr. Marlin Ferneries, who encapsulated the essence of leadership as service. His words set the stage for the responsibilities that would be shouldered by the community leaders moving forward.

Under the auspices of Philippine Consul Ralph Abarquez, the induction ceremony saw the swearing-in of key officers who will play pivotal roles in guiding the community group. The newly-inducted officers are as follows:

  • Alfie Tilan as President
  • Ness Gonzalez as Vice President
  • Rachelle Orodio as Secretary

The launch event celebrated the vibrant cultural heritage of the Filipino community, highlighted by a mesmerizing traditional Filipino dance performance by the Young Generation Sinta Dancers. Their graceful movements added a captivating touch of artistry and heritage to the occasion.

Amidst expressions of congratulations and well-wishes from attendees, the newly-sworn officers extended heartfelt gratitude and extended invitations to future events.

As the Pinoy Casey Community Inc embarked on its journey, the inauguration symbolized not only the establishment of an organization but also the commencement of a collective endeavor to foster leadership, culture, and service within the Filipino community in southeastern Melbourne.

1st Pinoy Olympics – 16 December 2023

The inaugural Pinoy Olympics, hosted by the Pinoy Casey Community Inc (PCCI), transformed Wilson Botanic Park in Berwick into a vibrant hub of traditional Filipino street games on Saturday, December 16th.

Amidst the picturesque setting, participants joyfully engaged in a variety of activities, from the classic sack race to the whimsical challenge of moving forward in coconut shell slippers tied with bamboo stilts. Laughter, excitement, and a sense of camaraderie permeated the air, as individuals of all ages embraced the opportunity to relive cherished childhood memories and forge new bonds.

Reflecting on the event, PCCI President Alfie Tilan remarked, “It brought us back to the ’80s in the Philippines, when we didn’t have the internet and spent our days playing street sports.” Despite the differences in environment, the spirit of these beloved pastimes thrived in the open spaces of Australia, providing families with an avenue to share cultural traditions and create lasting memories.

For many attendees, especially the younger generation, the Pinoy Olympics offered a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Filipino heritage. As Mr. Tilan noted, “It’s such a fantastic way for us to give the new generations a glimpse of what we did before back home.” The overwhelmingly positive response has already sparked anticipation for future events, with families eagerly expressing their desire to make the Pinoy Olympics an annual tradition.

Distinguished guests, including South Eastern Metropolitan MP Lee Tarlamis and Philippines Consul J. Sherwin Wenceslao, added to the festive atmosphere, underscoring the significance of the event within the Filipino-Australian community.

At its core, PCCI aims to nurture camaraderie, celebrate Filipino culture, strengthen family bonds, and inspire the next generation. Members and volunteers are warmly welcomed to join in this endeavor. For more information on how to get involved, please contact info@pinoycasey.au.
